About Therapy

2458168367You’re here for a reason.

It’s because you don’t feel good enough.

Like you don’t have a voice.

You wonder what went wrong for you to feel this way about yourself.

You’ve come to the right place to heal.

I specialize in anxiety and trauma but also offer counseling for personal growth, relationship issues, life transitions, grief, depression, stress, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and other mental health conditions.

Therapy can be a love-hate relationship.

Working through anxiety and trauma can be difficult.

Even if you’re not consciously focusing on the pain, it can still stir up a range of emotions, and not all of them are pleasant.

Letting go of long-held beliefs, even if they’re negative (like “I’m not good enough.”) can be painful.

But you have to do this work to get through to the other side.

And when you do, the relief and restoration you experience will make it all worthwhile.

286935725You need compassion right now.

Compassion is the foundation of my work.

It’s more than kindness – it’s a way of being present with my clients that makes them feel safe, accepted, and truly understood. When you are deeply seen without judgment, real healing becomes possible.

In practice, compassion means I meet you exactly where you are.

I pay attention to your pace, body language, and emotions between the words. I listen without rushing, validate without trying to “fix,” and create space for whatever you’re carrying – whether it’s grief, shame, anger, or confusion.

In this safe, nonjudgmental environment, you don’t have to filter yourself.

You can show up fully, even in your hardest moments. I hold space with empathy and consistency, offering reflections and questions that honor your truth – not challenge it.

Being seen is more than being heard.

It means I remember what matters to you. I notice shifts you might not see yet. I hold onto your story, your strengths, and your progress – even when you doubt yourself. In this space, you’re not just a client; you’re a whole person, and that’s how I show up for you every time.

Let’s heal your mind, body, and spirit.

I support your healing through a whole-person approach, addressing the mind, body, and spirit to promote lasting wellness.

We work with the mind by identifying and transforming negative beliefs, patterns, and thoughts that keep you stuck.

We engage the body through grounding techniques, mindfulness, and trauma-informed practices that help regulate your nervous system and reconnect you to your physical self.

And we honor the spirit by helping you rediscover your inner strength, align with your values, and cultivate meaning and purpose in your life.

True healing happens when all parts of you are seen, supported, and working together.

You really can feel better.

And you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.

I’m here to help you find relief, clarity, and a new way forward.

Let’s talk about what’s going on and see if working together feels like the right next step for you.

About Susan Brenner, LCSW

About SusanMy road to becoming a therapist…

I went to college and received my degree in psychology. And then, life happened.

I got married, had kids, and went down a different (but beautiful) path.

After many years, I circled back to resume my original goal of helping people through therapy. And I went back to college and specialized in Clinical Psychotherapy.

Many experiences brought me here – some even tragic – but I’m grateful for the road I’ve traveled.

Some of my professional background…

I hold a B.A. in psychology and a graduate degree in clinical social work from the University of Cincinnati.

I have advanced training in mental health, EMDR, somatic experiences, mindfulness, and stress reduction.

I’ve worked in inner-city clinics, psychiatry offices, and now in my private practice.

When I’m not doing therapy…

When I’m not in session, you’ll probably find me outside: walking, paddle-boarding, or kayaking.

Nature is where I find calm and clarity; it’s where I recharge.

I believe in the healing power of being present, whether that’s through time outdoors, a great meal with friends, or just listening to good music.

I deeply value connection with my family, close friends, and the clients I work with.

These things keep me grounded and bring joy and balance to my life, and I bring that spirit into my work.
